radial02_blue.gif Virtual Weatherman™ TightVNC Installation FAQs

Q. I am Behind a Router or Firewall - Will it Still Work? A. Yes. But you will need to configure your router properly. TightVNC uses ports 5800 and 5900 by default to communicate with connecting viewers.  We strongly recommend that you set TightVNC to use ports other than 5800/5900 to help avoid potential security risks. Once you have decided on the port addresses to use, you must program your router to 'forward' those ports (5800/ 5900 by default)  to the localarea network IP address of the computer on which you're installing it, presumeably the IP of the computer running the Virtual Weatherman™ software. You'll also need to set a password in TightVNC. When done.please provide us with the public IP address of your router, the ports selected, and the password, so we can connect when you need us  to.
